New Zealand's largest and longest-running multi-course amateur golf tournament is entering an exciting new chapter.
The 2027 Barfoot & Thompson Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic will feature a refreshed five-course line-up with the addition of Fairview Golf & Country Club, joining Mount Golf Club, Omokoroa Golf Club, Omanu Golf Club and Tauranga Golf Club to deliver the tournament's most diverse golfing experience yet.
Celebrating its 32nd edition in 2027, the Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic has established itself as one of New Zealand's premier amateur golf events, attracting players from across New Zealand and Australia. More than a tournament, it has become renowned for lasting friendships, unforgettable memories and showcasing the very best of Bay of Plenty golf.
A Fresh Addition to an Iconic Tournament
Nestled just south of Katikati, Fairview Golf & Country Club brings a distinctive inland parkland experience that perfectly complements the tournament's renowned coastal venues. Beautifully manicured fairways, mature trees, tranquil lakes and a welcoming country club atmosphere add a new dimension to an already exceptional line-up.
Players can now experience five contrasting championship courses over five days—from spectacular coastal fairways and harbour views to peaceful parkland surrounds—creating a golfing journey unlike any other in New Zealand.
"We're incredibly excited to welcome Fairview Golf & Country Club into the Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic family," said Kim Buckley, from PaR NZ Golfing Holidays, the tournament organisers.
"The addition of Fairview signals the beginning of a new era for the tournament. Its superb course presentation, welcoming culture and distinctive parkland layout perfectly complement our existing host clubs, further strengthening the tournament's reputation as one of Australasia's must-play amateur golf events."
A Bright Future for Fairview
Fairview Golf & Country Club General Manager Kat Gardner said joining the tournament marks an exciting milestone for the club.
"We're thrilled to become part of one of New Zealand's premier amateur golf events. The Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic has built an outstanding reputation over more than three decades, and we're excited to showcase not only our course but also our club, our community and the wider Western Bay of Plenty to golfers from throughout New Zealand and overseas."
The announcement comes at a significant time for Fairview. Following uncertainty in recent years, the club's long-term future has been secured through new land covenants, providing certainty for members and paving the way for continued investment in both the golf course and clubhouse facilities.
Showcasing the Bay of Plenty
Fairview's inclusion further reinforces the Bay of Plenty's reputation as one of New Zealand's premier golf destinations. With five outstanding courses located within easy travelling distance, players can also enjoy world-class beaches, award-winning hospitality, vibrant cafés, wineries and some of the country's most spectacular coastal scenery.
Tournament naming sponsor Barfoot & Thompson has also recently announced a new residential development at Fairview, further demonstrating its commitment to the region.
Bay of Plenty Area Manager Kevin Coppins believes the partnership creates an exciting opportunity.
"Fairview's inclusion in the Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic showcases far more than exceptional golf. It highlights an outstanding lifestyle destination where visitors can experience championship golf, beautiful surroundings and a vibrant community. We're proud to support an event that continues to raise the profile of both Fairview and the wider Bay of Plenty."
New Clubhouse for Omokoroa
Timely - The new Omokoroa Golf Club clubhouse has been built with members and the wider Omokoroa community in mind. Positioned to take full advantage of the stunning harbour views across the golf course, the facility provides a welcoming and modern destination for golfers, visitors and locals alike.
