OVERVIEW

PaR nz Golfing Holidays on behalf of Golf New Zealand, are delighted to announce that Hamilton Golf Club also known as St Andrews of Hamilton, will host the 2024 New Zealand Men’s and Women’s Mid-Amateur.

 

The St Andrews Course – home of the Hamilton Golf Club – has been challenging golfers since it opened for play more than 110 years ago beside the Waikato River.  The club started in 1903 in central Hamilton and moved a couple of times before the vision and generosity of Harry Gillies saw it established on the St Andrews site in 1913.

 

St Andrews started life as an undulating links course, complete with more than 60 bunkers. Later trees were planted and some of the rough tamed. In recent years the course has been tweaked to improve playability and maintenance demands. Some of the famously feared bunkers have been reshaped or replaced with mown swales, some trees removed and a few tees stretched back. But the course layout is essentially unchanged and continues to challenge golfers of all abilities.

FORMAT

Both Trophies, the Neil Woodbury Mid-Amateur Cup and the New Zealand Women’s Masters Shield, donated by the Women’s Trust Fund, will be awarded to the overall lowest gross winner, man and woman, over 54 holes. Additional Gross, Net and Stableford prizes by division and age will be awarded, the final split advised when entries close and the field is full.   In the event of a tie for the overall championship, those players tied will play off in a sudden death format as selected by the Championship Committee. This shall continue until a winner is determined. If for any reason this is not possible, joint winners will be declared.  All other prizes and places shall be decided by count back, of the last 18 holes, 9, 6, 3, and then 1. If still tied, the winner shall be decided by lot. If inclement weather affects any round the Championship Committee may alter the format and the numbers of rounds played. All prizes will be distributed in accordance with the Rules of Amateur Status. The field will be limited to the first 128 paid entries received.   

 

The Tournament Director reserves the right to make amendments according to the final split of entries, by age, handicap and gender, with final divisions advised when entries are closed. Additional entries may be considered outside the listed handicap ranges at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

Prize Giving The tournament prize giving will be held in conjunction with lunch after play on Sunday at Hamilton Golf Club 

 

ELIGIBILITY 

Open to all affiliated golfers – aged 30 and over as the first day of the tournament:  Men’s handicap’s, maximum index of 14.0 or an overseas equivalent: Women’s handicap’s, maximum index of 24.0 or an overseas equivalent.

 

(Note – the tournament committee accepts that handicaps may alter from the time of entry to the start of the tournament, and may accept players with slightly higher handicaps at their discretion).  Refer the Golf NZ standard Tournament Conditions for all eligibility criteria

 

ENTRY INCLUSIONS

• Entry fee of $250 per person, includes your entry fee, complimentary practice round on Thursday - Lunch on the Sunday for Prize Giving

• Trundlers available from the pro shop at a nominal cost

• Electric carts, must be booked and approved by the tournament director (i.e. carts cannot be booked directly with the pro shop; approved for medical reasons)

• Add-on souvenir Golf NZ Tournament Shirt $75.00 (Black, white or navy – other colours may be available and will announced closer to the Championship – FJ Brand)

ENTRY INFORMATION

1.      Entries to be made online on the PaR nz website www.parnz.co.nz/tournaments Entries will not be accepted by phone.

2.      PaR nz Limited and / or Golf New Zealand or the host club reserve the right to refuse any entry without being required to give a reason.

3.      Entrants must conform with the Rules of Amateur Status, as adopted by the R & A Limited. 

4.      Entrants must accept the Terms of Competition and Booking Conditions when entering online.

5.      The Scoring records and handicaps of entrants will be reviewed for authenticity through the Golf New Zealand Handicapping website, and/or an overseas equivalent. 

6.      Handicaps will be frozen for the weekend.

7.      It is the player’s sole responsibility to ensure her entry has been received prior to the closing date. A player’s entry has not officially been received until a confirmation is received.

8.      In the event of applications exceeding the number of places available in the field, the tournament committee may increase the number of players or, accept entries in order based on handicap. Entry fees will be refunded to those entrants balloted out.

10.    The data contained in the entry form submitted by the entrant is permanently retained by Golf New Zealand / PaR nz Limited within its database of competitors details. From time to time Golf New Zealand / PaR nz Limited may allow a sponsor or golf clubs to utilize the information contained. Players photos will be used as appropriate for media and publicity purposes including press releases and a winners report.

 

REGISTRATION
All competitors must register in person on Thursday 11 January or at least one hour prior to their tee time on Friday 12 January 2024, or unless arranged with the Tournament Director. Failure to do so may result in their place being taken by someone else.
