2012 New Zealand Golf Men’s Mid Amateur @ Lakes Resort, Pauanui Friday 12 – Sunday 14 October
Cormomandel’s, The Lakes Resort will host the 2012 New Zealand Golf Men’s Mid Amateur as announced, by tournament director, Denise Langdon, of PaR nz Golfing Holidays.
Competing for the Neil Woodbury Cup, the 2012 event will be the tournaments 8th Championship.
Northland representative, Michael Perrin won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011, when held at his home course The Bay of Islands, Kerikeri. Organisers hope he returns in 2012 to attempt a ‘three-peat’.
The tournament while appealing to the club golfer of all abilities has attracted some top players in the past including New Zealand and district representatives. Well-known Glen Goldfinch from Auckland won the championship in 2004 and was a previous New Zealand Eisenhower team member.
Other winners include Dean Sipson, who is now playing again on the New Zealand professional circuit along with Martin Tumata, who is an Auckland representative and a previous New Zealand junior. Manawatu Greens Superintendent, Malcolm Wells and a representative for Manawatu - Wanganui was the winner in 2007.
Players will compete for placing into divisions of 16 after 36 holes qualifying on Friday 12th October 2012. 36 holes match play will then be played on Saturday with semi-finals and finals scheduled for Sunday 14th October.
Players of all handicap levels, aged 30+ are encouraged to enter as all divisions have multiple flights and plates, ensuring all have at least five rounds at this well appointed course.
The Lakes Resort Golf Course was opened in 2044, designed by Canadian golf course designers, Sid Puddicombe Associate and is recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading golf courses and resorts. Many of the country’s leading professionals, amateurs and golf writers have reportedly rated Lakes Resort in the top six in the country.
Highly rated are the greens at The Lakes, said to be among the best in New Zealand. They were the first putting surfaces in New Zealand to be made from L93 Bent, an exceptional strong, consistent strain of grass developed at the University of Georgia in the U.S.
